12 MARCH 2018: As a Senior Project Control Engineer at FAST, Abdulaziz Bakhashwain has diverse responsibilities with one simple objective: to work closely with project team members within the consortium to ensure that all budgeting, scheduling and co-ordination processes on Package 3 run smoothly.

It is a position of responsibility, but Bakhashwain is certainly no stranger to pressure. Educated in the USA, he started his career at Saudi Aramco, one of the world’s toughest proving grounds. Every day, he brings the experiences of Aramco project management to the table on the Riyadh Metro.

“Aramco is a top class field where you are pushed to the limit,” he remarks. “It’s a stressful environment which challenges you as a person and a professional, but which also equips you with all the right skills. When the opportunity came to work on the Riyadh Metro, I believed I had the tools to fulfil the expectations of the position as a FAST member, and it has proved that way.”

As a senior project control engineer, Bakhashwain must meet daily demands testing his analytical capabilities to the full.

“If there’s a delay, we need to find out how we can recover from the delay. We need to find out if there are any cost implications [of the delay], and of course find ways to prevent the delay from happening again. The fact that in the Project Control team at FAST we have 13 different nationalities who all see and interpret things differently is both exciting and a test of my diplomacy skills!”
