Bapco Modernization Project - Residue Unit

Bids are still under evaluation. An award is expected by 15th May.

Several local as well as international companies have submitted their bids for the EPC contract.

The main contract bid submissions will be taking place later this month and main contractor is expected to be awarded in Q1-2017.

Worley Parsons has been awarded the Project Management contract.

CB&I Lummus and Chevron has been appointed as technology providers for the residue conversion unit.

Several companies have submitted their bids for being the technology provider on the project. An award is expected next month.

Tenders have been issued for companies to submit bids for being the “technology provider” on the scheme.

It is still unsure whether all the construction units will be constructed simultaneously. Currently, it is planned that it will be done in stages from 2017-2020. However, the residue conversion unit is regarded as the most important project, as BAPCO will be able to use the money generated from this to fund further projects. 

Shortlisted companies for the FEED and PMC contract are as follows:

• Worley Parsons

Eight companies are expected to be shortlisted for the FEED and PMC contract. Bapco has also revealed that companies will be able to bid for the FEED and PMC as one contract or as a separate contract.

However, it is worth noting that the company successful as a PMC contractor will not be allowed to bid for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract. But the successful FEED contractor will be allowed to bid for the EPC contract.

Masterplan design is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Feasibility study has been completed.

Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) has revealed plans to execute the residue conversion unit at its refinery. Upon completion, the unit is expected to process heavier crude types into lighter grade products.

Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) is carrying out an in-house feasibility study for the production of this unit.

Project conception and initiation. Plan is to upgrade capacity from the current maximum capacity of 267,000bpd. The project is dependent on the increased capacity of the new Arabia pipeline.
