Mideast lighting summit to draw 400 experts


More than 400 lighting professionals will discuss the current trends, emerging technologies and innovative practices shaping the lighting design sector at a key industry event to be held in Dubai, UAE, next year.

More than 400 lighting professionals will discuss the current trends, emerging technologies and innovative practices shaping the lighting design sector at a key industry event to be held in Dubai, UAE, next year.

The seventh edition of the Middle East Lighting Design Summit, which will run from May 2 to 3, has already attracted an all-star line-up of over 30 speakers, with more to be announced shortly, said the event organiser Expotrade Global.

Two highly esteemed international and award-winning lighting designers Gerd Pfarré and Michael Grubb have already been confirmed as the headline speakers at the event.

A lighting designer since 1992, and founder of the award-winning Pfarré Lighting Design practice, Pfarré is a frequent speaker at universities and conferences around the world.

A professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), Pfarré has served as a member of the IALD board of directors. In 2012, he was inducted to the IALD College of Fellows.

He is also a juror in the field of lighting design, and from 2011 to 2013 he was the co-editor of Illuminator, the print edition.

His practice is the recipient of over 100 national and international design awards, whilst Pfarré himself was named ‘Lighting Designer of the Year’ in 2016 at the prestigious Lighting Design Awards in London, UK.

Grubb is the creative director of Michael Grubb Studio and an award-winning lighting designer.
He began his lighting design career in 1998 and subsequently became a director of Sutton Vane Associates, helping them with numerous projects and awards all over the world.

Over the last 15 years his projects have been featured on BBC TV and Channel 4, as well as in the national specialist press. He has won accolades including the National Lighting Design Award, Lux Award, RIBA White Rose, Landscape Institute Award and Design Week Award.

Grubb is also a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, Society of Light & Lighting, Chartered Society of Lighting and a guest lecturer at the Arts University College of Bournemouth.

Both Pfarré and Grubb will be joined by experts from across the GCC region, speaking on a range of topics including façade lighting, the importance of natural light, architectural lighting 2.0, the major drivers of indoor lighting management and the effect of light on productivity.
